Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are vital to our organization. Their commitment and generosity support us in helping families prosper through our adult literacy and family literacy programs.

We offer a number of meaningful opportunities to volunteer in the Edmonton area. We provide free training for all of our volunteers.

Adult Tutors

Volunteer tutors work one-on-one, or in small groups, with adults who want to improve their reading, writing, math, or other essential life skills. Tutors meet with learners in person or by distance learning. * Note: at this time we are unable to accept applications for Adult Tutors, as our waitlist is full.

Our tutors:

  • Attend 6 hours of free Adult Program training *
  • Set goals with your learner and prepare lessons to meet their individual needs and interests
  • Provide encouragement and support to help increase both skills and confidence
  • Previous experience as a tutor is not required

Time Commitment:

  • Tutors and learners meet at a date, time, and safe public location that is convenient for both people, or by scheduled distance learning
  • A minimum of 3 months with at least 1 hour per week spent tutoring over the course of the 3 months
  • This volunteer role may occur weekdays, evenings, and/or weekends as chosen by the volunteer

  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English?
  • Friendly, non-judgmental, patient and reliable?
  • Eager to help someone improve his or her reading, writing and confidence?
