Volunteer Opportunities

We have a number of volunteering opportunities in the Edmonton area: tutoring, library aide, front desk help and much more.

Adult Tutor Volunteers

Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with adults who want to improve their reading, writing, or math skills.

Do you:

• Have a grade 12 diploma
• Like to read books
• Like to talk and listen
• Want to help someone improve their reading and writing

Are you:

• Proficient in English
• Willing to participate in tutor training workshops
• Able to volunteer 2-4 hours a week for at least 6 months
• Nonjudgmental, patient and reliable

If you answered yes, then you might enjoy becoming a volunteer tutor at the Centre.

Office Work Volunteers

Office volunteers work with staff to maintain a professional and friendly reception area.

Do you:

• Like to talk to people
• Enjoy answering the telephone
• Like working on computers
• Love to greet people
• Hope to become a receptionist or office manager some day

If you answered yes, then you might enjoy volunteering at the front desk!

Library Volunteers

Volunteers in the Resource Centre are aides to the Librarian.

They sort and shelve returned books; sort and process new library materials; tidy the Library space; and make up pockets, cards, and recover books as needed. They also do some work assessing reading levels of new books.

Do you:

• Love leafing through books
• Enjoy helping people
• Like working on computers
• Love to organize and tidy things up
• Enjoy being in a bright, friendly and cheerful environment
• Enjoy new challenges

If you answered yes, then volunteering in the library might be just right for you!

Fundraising/Special Events Volunteers

Volunteer for special events, casinos, booths or displays.

Do you:

• Love planning and creating
• Enjoy an exciting "charged" atmosphere
• Love meeting people
• Get energized when lots of people are around
• Enjoy answering questions
• Feel comfortable asking people for donations

If you answered yes, then you might enjoy volunteering at our Special Events!

We will provide all the necessary training per event!

Program Volunteers

At times our programs become so busy that we need your help! As well, we are always on the look out for handy men or women who like to put up things, fix things, and carry things...

Do you:

• Enjoy variety
• Like to read and sing to children
• File and type
• Prefer to volunteer on an on-call basis
• Enjoy traveling around the city
• Enjoy meeting new people
• Enjoy fix it projects

If you answered yes, then you might want to volunteer in one of our programs or to help us around the Centre!
