Adult Tutoring

Adult Tutoring is a program that provides trained volunteers to work individually with adults 18 and over who can speak and understand English and who read and/or write below a Grade Nine level.

Adult Tutoring is funded by Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, Community Programs

The Program:

  • One on one tutoring sessions for 2-4 hours a week for at least 6 months
  • A library of learning and resource materials
  • Small group workshops
  • Opportunity for the student to meet other students at the Centre

The Benefits:

  • Students gain self confidence
  • Students’ reading and writing skills improve
  • Better job opportunities for the students

Challenges

Challenges is programming for adults who face multiple barriers to learning, including a developmental delay.

Challenges is funded by:

Edmonton Community Adult Learning Association

The Program:

  • One on one tutoring sessions
  • Literacy workshops focusing on topics such as Readers Theatre, Everyday Learning and Reading and Writing

The Benefits

  • Students increase or maintain their literacy skills
  • Better health, financial and employment opportunities
  • Students gain self-esteem and peer acceptance

Library Resource Centre

The Library houses a collection of over 4,000 titles and is the most extensive adult literacy collection in the province of Alberta.

Material for students, tutors and those in various programs is available. Our collection includes workbooks, tutor assisted resources, fiction and nonfiction material assessed for various reading levels.

Material is free for all students, tutors, and those utilizing our programs. Please call to make an appointment if you would like to visit our Centre.

Library hours are:

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon
