The Alberta Prairie C.O.W. bus drove out of the rain into the sunshine and a great time at the Valleyview and Districts Agricultural Society Annual Fair & Rodeo.
On the first day the bus parked between the Exhibit Hall and the Jack Williamson Ag Plex. We participated in the Community Corn Boil and Chili Cook-off. There weren’t very many empty chairs in the Ag Plex that evening when we presented a Legacy Library to the Chair of the Municipal Library Board for the library.
The next day the bus put on it’s best smile and entered the parade. The bus won a third place ribbon!! After the parade, the bus returned to the fair grounds and parked right by the entrance and concession booths. You couldn’t miss it!
It was great to see so many dads spend time modeling the importance of literacy to their children!
In the two days more than 220 people came on the bus for a visit. There were many volunteers that helped make the visit a success. Thank you to everyone that helped and visited, we had a great time!
What parents and participants have said about the program
“I think that grandparents should have a larger responsibility in reading stories to their grandchildren. You should be targeting grandparents more with the C.O.W. bus.”
“Awesome ideas! I’ll be stealing some if you don’t mind.”
“I got new creative ideas on implementing reading & encouraging vocabulary.”
