Links Fore Literacy Golf Tournament

The first annual Links Fore Literacy Golf Tournament was held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Coloniale Golf Club in Beaumont, Alberta.

The golf tournament is a fund raising event for the Centre's Classroom on Wheels (C.O.W.) Bus and successfully raised $23,000 for the program.

Eric Newell, Honorary Chair of the Centre, was the guest speaker at the lunch following the tournament. He stated, "rising skill levels demanded in the workplace and the ever increasing use of technology in our daily lives is a major challenge for both the individual and for businesses." He went on to stress the important role parents play in supporting their children's early literacy development and how this encourages lifelong learning.

"Did You Know" literacy facts were placed on many of the tee boxes to build awareness of the importance of literacy and the players competed for an e-reader by answering the quiz based on these facts.
